Timber Bay’s history

Timber Bay is a northern hamlet on the east side of Montreal Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. It once sat on the main highway running north from Prince Albert. Highway 2 has since been routed along the western side of the lake, so Timber Bay is now reached by a gravel road, about 20 minutes by car from the community of Montreal Lake.

Schooling began here in September 1951, when the area's first school opened in an old log building next to a small store and garage owned by Henry Fornier. Bernard McIntyre was the first teacher, and his students came from the Beatty, Fornier, Pruden and Lee families. In 1952 a school was established at its present site.
